Advance Understanding
Support responsible communication and understanding of credible, evidence-informed knowledge relating to gut health, nutrition and the microbiome.

AROHA GUT HEALTH TRUST · NEW ZEALAND
The human gut is far more than a digestive system. Modern science is revealing an extraordinarily complex relationship between the gut, its microbiome and human health.
WHY GUT HEALTH MATTERS

Australia and New Zealand are among the regions with the world's highest colorectal cancer incidence rates.
At the same time, research into the human gut microbiome is changing our understanding of the relationship between microorganisms and the human body. Evidence increasingly connects the gut microbiome with metabolism, immune regulation and multiple aspects of human physiology.
But association does not always mean causation. Many important questions remain unanswered.

OUR PURPOSE
We believe scientific knowledge creates greater value when it can be understood, shared and translated into meaningful benefit for society.
Support responsible communication and understanding of credible, evidence-informed knowledge relating to gut health, nutrition and the microbiome.
Create opportunities for researchers, clinicians, educators and organisations to exchange knowledge across disciplines, institutions and borders.
Help make complex science more accessible and encourage informed conversations about gut health within the wider community.

WHAT WE DO
Encouraging dialogue and knowledge-sharing between researchers, clinicians and professionals.
Helping translate complex scientific ideas into accessible information that supports better public understanding.
Building bridges between New Zealand and international scientific and professional communities.
Creating opportunities for evidence-informed conversations across research, health and community settings.

SCIENTIFIC EXCHANGE
Progress in gut health science depends on more than research alone. It depends on researchers, clinicians and communities having opportunities to share knowledge, ask questions and learn from different perspectives.
“Our role is not to speak for science, but to help create the space where science can be shared, discussed and understood.”
NEW ZEALAND × CHINA

Scientific progress rarely happens in isolation. New Zealand and China each bring valuable research expertise, clinical experience and perspectives to the rapidly developing fields of gut health and microbiome science.
Aroha Gut Health Trust seeks to create meaningful opportunities for researchers, clinicians, educators and organisations from both countries to meet, exchange ideas and develop lasting professional connections.
Different perspectives. Shared questions. Better understanding.
OUR STORY
Aroha is a Māori word associated with love, compassion, care and connection.
It reflects the spirit behind the Trust: a belief that scientific progress should ultimately serve people and communities.
Aroha Gut Health Trust was established in New Zealand with an ambition to create a trusted platform where science, education and international collaboration can come together around better gut health.
From New Zealand, connecting knowledge for healthier communities.OUR APPROACH
Credible evidence, responsible communication and intellectual curiosity.
A platform where knowledge and public benefit come before commercial interests.
Complex health challenges benefit from perspectives across disciplines and communities.
Scientific knowledge should travel beyond laboratories, journals and conferences.
INSIGHTS & ACTIVITIES
A growing collection of conversations, educational resources and activities exploring gut health and microbiome science.
